Obituary : Sally McCain Kemble Krom 30 August 1929 – 7 June 2009 Sally Krom a resident of Colfax since 1986 passed away on June 7, 2009 at the Whitman Hospital in Colfax. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 10th at 11:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church. Pastor Phylis Stromme will officiate. The widow of Don Krom she spent most of her life in Grahamsville NY and Colfax. She grew up in Grahamsville and Kyserike NY and earned a Bachelors of Arts from Montreat College, North Carolina in 1951. After College she married Don Krom in Stone Ridge NY and they moved to Grahamsville where she stayed until 1984 when she moved to the Palouse. Three elements have been the focus of Sally’s life: books, food and helping others. Her engagement in library organizations reflected her great interest in books and education; she always had a book (or 2!) with her. A long time Red Cross volunteer in NY and WA she was awarded a Clara Barton Service Award. She was also an active volunteer in the Grahamsville ambulance services (EMT); the Grandmothers Club in Colfax; and the Colfax Library. She worked as a care giver which reflected her love of helping others in need. As all who met Sally knew, she loved food especially making and serving it; preparing a good meal and seeing people enjoy it filled her with joy, and filled the guests with great contentment. She was always active in her Church, first in the Dutch Reformed Church in Grahamsville where she taught Sunday school and was active in many other ways (her baked goods were always sought after at fund raisers) and later Peace Lutheran in Colfax where she was an energetic input to many activities. Sally is survived by her son Thomas, his wife Dorrit and their two children Asbjørn and Esther; as well as by her two brothers, Jack and Bill, and their families. The family wishes to thank friends and neighbors for their support to Sally and us during the last few weeks. Also the staff of Colfax Hospital has been a wonderful help to Sally and us. [2]
