John Russell Kelso was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 23, 1831. He was the son of Robert Kelso and Anna Rose.
John married Mary Moore in 1851. They were divorced in 1856.
John married Susie Barnes, who may or may not have been the same person as Martha Susan McCapes, whom John married in 1858.
John served as an Independent Republican Member of the House of Representatives for Missouri's 4th district from March 4, 1865 to March 3, 1867.
He was a registered voter in Modesto, Stanislaus, California 29 March 1879.[1]
In 1880 he was in Empire, Stanislaus, California, lodging in the household of farmer L. A. Finney. He was married, but no wife was with him. His occupation was listed as scholar. He was listed as age 30, born in Ohio, father born in New Jersey, mother born in Pennsylvania.[2]
John married Etta Dunbar in 1885.
John died in Longmont, Colorado on January 26, 1891. He was originally buried on his estate near Longmont, but his remains were later disinterred, cremated and scattered.[3]
