Biography

The son of John Marion Kelley Sr and Louisa Jane (Winchell) Kelley, Joel Kelley was born in Strawberry Township, Arkansas^{[citation needed]} in 1858, residing there with his family in 1860.^[1] After the Civil War ended, his father took the family to Missouri, residing in 1870 in Twelvemile Township, in Madison County.^[2]

Joel married Nancy Ellen Randolph (1864-), about whom nothing is known but that she was born in Missouri, marrying in Ironton, Missouri on October 19, 1879,^[3] when Nancy was quite young, around the age of 15. They made their home in 1880 in Arcadia Township, Missouri, farming.^[4]

Likely widowed when his wife was young, Joel remarried, marrying Ellen May Richardson (1862-), the widow of John J. Ashby, making their home together in 1900 in Clay Township, Missouri, where he farmed on rented land.^[5] In 1910, they lived together in Doniphan Township, Missouri, where Joel farmed on his own account, owning his land free and clear.^[6] The marriage later ended in divorce and in 1930, Joel lived alone in Lesterville, Missouri, farming.^[7]

William Joel Kelley passed away at the age of 73 and is buried in the family plot at Collins Cemetery in Minimum, Missouri.^[8]
