I have been a member for quite a while, but have some long sleeps, when nothing happens. My Tree is rather brief, but we do have a lot of information on the wider Kellaway/Callaway Tree, including a lot of different spellings - over 400 all told - but not so many today. Our name goes back to Cailly/Caillouet in Normandy. My first name is John. But am known as

Kelway has been one of our 400 or so name variations, used from the late 1500s. The name originated as Cailly/Caillouet in Eure/Normandy from the 1000s, descended from Rollo, the first leader of the Normans. They were closly related to Duke William's family, the Beaumonts, and Giffards. The spellings were the result of translation from the French, into the virtually illiterate society in Medieval times. There were two main branches in the 14-1500s, and Rockbourne in Hamshire, was the home of the Rockbourne family, where there were three consecutive knights from Sir Willian in 1501. Descendants covered much of southern England, particularly Dorset, where the spelling has been mainly Kellaway from the 1600s. Callaways are numerous in the US, although there are family members in anumber of spellings today in Canada, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand, where I live. We have had very good researchers, and there is a lot of information.

Rockbouurne was the home of a major family in the 14-1500s. And I have a lot of information on the early medieval family.
