William (Keith) Keith Fourth Earl Marischal is a member of Clan Keith.
Notables Project
William (Keith) Keith Fourth Earl Marischal is Notable.

William Keith, 4th Earl Marischal (c.1510-1581) was the eldest son of Robert, master of Marischal (d. 1524/5) and his wife, Elizabeth (or Beatrice) Douglas (d. after 1527), daughter of John, second earl of Morton.[1] He was still a minor when he succeeded to the title on the death of his grandfather between 24 November 1526 and 2 May 1527.

He married in 1531, or soon afterwards, Margaret (b. c.1518, d. in or before 1563), granddaughter and coheir of Sir William Keith of Inverugie, who brought great wealth of her own into the family. They had twelve children—nine daughters (among them Annas Keith, later countess of Moray and of Argyll), and three sons—including

  1. William, master of Marischal
  2. Robert, Lord Altrie.

On 20 Mar 1543, he was appointed one of eight guardians of Mary, Queen of Scots, during her childhood.[2]

He died on 7 October 1581, probably in Dunnottar Castle, near Stonehaven. His heir was his grandson George Keith.[3][4][5]

Research Notes

Wikipedia: William Keith, 4th Earl Marischal (which has the incorrect numbering)]
Dictionary of National Biography has him numbered incorrectly, citing 1927 revision by Thomas Innes, which which now makes him 4th, not 3rd.

Thanks for all the hard work, but you still have Elizabeth Hay marrying father and son and I'm afraid the image is George Keith, 5th Earl Marischal, d1623.

This has been corrected. Problem was caused because someone added the wrong person as father of her son George, and also allowed the marriage connection at same time.
Keith-5972 and Keith-415 appear to represent the same person because: Both sons of Robert Keith and his wife Elizabeth (or Beatrice) Douglas, with same date he died. No evidence there were two sons both named William. The exact birth date of Keith-5972 is unsourced so unsure where this has come from, often exact birth dates are unknown in this time period. Also there is a skipped generation in Keith-5972. Elizabeth Hay is the wife of another William Keith, the son of Keith-415 and George the grandson of Keith-415. However these two profiles are duplicates and must be merged according to WikiTree policy.

By the way, as to the request below, I am working on these because I am the manager of Clan Keith in the Scottish Clans Project on Wikitree. Keith is also one of my wife's main lines. Thanks, any help or advice is appreciated.

I would like permission to add several children to this profile. According to the Peerage (http://thepeerage.com/p10834.htm#i108331) there are 8 children in all.

Another source indicates there were 12 children total between the two wives, according to this source: ( http://www.stirnet.com/genie/data/british/kk/keith02.php). This same source also proposes that William is the 4th Earl, rather than the 3rd. Do you have other references that might lend credibility to any of these proposed changes?
