Patrick and Ann were married in CorbetsTown Ireland in 1854 and sailed from Plymouth on the 14.07.1855 on the Balinaguith and sailed around Cape of Good Hope, south Africa. Arrived at Portland Victoria 110 days later, with 4 day old son James. They had 7/6 in their pocket. The young family was engaged by young James Hamilton aged 16years of Bringalbert, Station, as a married couple, who he describe as a "fine, strong, capable looking young couple. Ann was to cook and Patrick was a knockabout. They waited 3 weeks before starting their trip by bullock wagon. The trip took 17 days in a strange country with snakes, kangaroos, and emus Mrs Hamilton of Bringalbert Station became a widow when her husband died from a horse accident . He was dragged to death when a rope became tangled around his leg. He was found by the local aborigines. Ann worked in the kitchen and house for 2 years until her contract was fulfilled and then they left the homestead and lived close by for another 3 years. When land selection began they at the nearby Newland Station they selected 320 acres, three miles due east of apsley and named it Summerhill. They had 10 children, (another 2 had died shortly after birth) James, Mary (Comerford), Rose, Patrick, John, Richard, Therese (McInnes), Twins Edmond and William, Thomas.

They cleared the land of heavy timber. Pat had a bullock wagon , and carted wool, timber, stones and other goods His occupation on death certificate was listed as sheep farmer and he died aged 68 years of bronchitis and tumor (lung Ca) He is buried with Ann in Edenhope cemetery next to his daughter Mary Comerford.
