Bruno von Kärnten was born in 972, the second son of Otto von Wormsgau (later Duke of Kärnten) and Judith von Kärnten. This meant he was the great-grandson of Emperor Otto the Great.[1][2]
He was elected Pope on 3 May 996 taking the name Gregory V.[3]
Platina[4] states:
He died of malaria on 18 February 999 in Rome aged 27. He is buried in St Peter's Basilica, Rome.[1][2]
