Biography

Adoniram Judson, Sr., was a son of Elnathan Judson and his wife Rebecca (Minor) Judson.[1] Adoniram was born in Woodbury, Connecticut, in June 1750.[2] Adoniram Judson, son of Elnathan, was baptized in Woodbury on 15 July 1750.[3] The birth of Adoniram Judson is not documented in Woodbury town records.[4]

Adoniram Judson of Malden, Massachusetts, son of Elnathan and Rebecca or Woodbury, Connecticut, married Mrs. Abigail Brown, of Abraham and Abigail, of Tiverton, Rhode Island, on 23 November 1786. The marriage was performed by Rev. S. Hopkins and was recorded in both Tiverton and Malden.[5][6][7]

He passed away in 1826. He was buried at Hill Cemetery, Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States.[8][9]

Sources

  1. Wayland reported confusion about his mother's name, citing a source provided by the Judson family that in one place named his mother as Rebecca Minor and in another place identified her as Mary Judson. Although Adoniram's mother's name wasn't recorded at his baptism, his mother is determined to be Rebecca based on the Rhode Island marriage record that gives his parents' names.

Judson-641 and Judson-640 appear to represent the same person because: Both are Adoniram Judson Sr, father of Adoniran Judson Jr. Sources indicate he was born in Woodbury, Connecticut in 1752.
