Biography

Elsie was born St. Luke's Hospice, in the Ecclesall Bierlow district of Sheffield, Yorkshire on 18 July 1920.^[1][2] She was baptised at the Wesleyan Reform Union Church, Sharrow Vale, Sheffield, Yorkshire on 29 August that year.^[3]

In 1936, Elsie begun working for her father's business (see the profiles of George Jowitt Snr and his son, George Jowitt for details). She joined her aunt, Mrs Gadd, in the office, in the role of office junior at a wage of £1 per week.^[4]

On 22 April 1954, she married a long standing employee at her father's firm, Laurence Lee Duncalf Orme, known as Laurie, at the the Church of St Lawrence at Kirby Misperton^[5] in the North Riding of Yorkshire.^[6][7][8]

Elsie passed away on 29 April 2012 aged 91 years.^[2][9] A memorial service was held at the Church of St John the Evangelist, Ranmoor Sheffield, Yorkshire on 1 June 2012.^[10]
