Clemon Joseph was born in 1804 at Lee County, Virginia, the son of William Joseph and Cassandra Stafford.^[1]

Marriage

Clemmy married in 1828 at Perry Co., KY, to Elizabeth Hilton (b 1810 Wise Co VA, d 1890 Leslie Co KY), daughter of Jacob Engle and Rachel Vale.^[1]

Census

The 1840 Census reports "Clem Joseph" living at Lee County, Virginia; he was between the ages of 30 and 40. Also in the household: three males under age 5, one male between age 10 and 15. Females were: two between age 5 and 10, two between ages 10 and 15, and his wife, between age 30 and 40.^[2] On the same page are four Wells families, including that of Elihu Wells who was between 20 and 30 years old.

The 1850 Census found "Clemm Joseph" living in Lee County, Virginia, age 45, with his wife, Elizabeth age 40. Clemm and all the children were born in Virginia, but Elizabeth was born in Kentucky. Also in the household were children:^[3]
