Biography

Charles Henry Jones was born in 1862 in Tunstall. He was the son of Peter and Jane (Phillips) Jones. His father was a labourer; his parents were from Edge in Cheshire.

Charles married Rachel Mollart in 1890 in a civil ceremony. Charles was an engine man in the colliery, working with the winding engine.

Charles and Rachel had seven children together in all, but the eldest, Annie, died at the age of three. Rachel died in 1906, and Charles remarried in 1908, to Maria Broad.

Research Notes

Rachel's family had a lodger Robert Jones (born about 1824 in Hanley) living with them in 1861. He wasn't an obvious close relative of Charles Henry Jones.
