Gertrude's biography was included in the book, "The Negro at Mound Bayou."[1]
She and her parents lived in Selma, Alabama until 1889 when they moved first to Vicksburg, Warren County, Mississippi, where they then moved to Mound Bayou, Bolivar County, Mississippi in early 1900. She completed her primary grade credentials at Knox Academy, at Selma, Alabama and obtained her educational qualifications at Cherry Street Public School in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She entered the teaching profession in Bolivar County in 1902 and became the Principal of the Mound Bayou Public School in 1904.[1]
Gertrude (26) married John H. Bryant (29) on 18 Dec 1907 in Mound Bayou, Bolivar, Mississippi.[3]
In 1910, Gertrude was living in household of Jno H Bryant (31) in Beat 3, Bolivar, Mississippi, USA.[4]
