Paul B Johnson was born on September 4, 1925 in Burlington, New Jersey. He is a son of a Swedish American born father, Axel E Johnson, and Alice R Archer.
In 1930, he lived with his parents and siblings in Trenton, Mercer, New Jersey.[1] By 1940, they moved to Bordentown, Burlington, New Jersey.[2]

Paul first joined the United States Navy during World War II before he turned 18. His draft card has his birth date as June 26, 1925. Fireman 1st Class Paul Johnson died during a kamikaze attack on his ship, the destroyer USS Laffey, off the coast of Okinawa, Japan on April 16, 1945. They were assigned to radar picket station 1 about 30 miles north of Okinawa. The USS Laffey was successful in repulsing an air attack which downed 13 enemy aircraft.[3][4][5]
He was originally buried in the 6th Marine Division Cemetery in Okinawa. On May 11, 1950, Paul was finally interred at Beverly National Cemetery in Beverly, Burlington, New Jersey in Section N, site 245. [6][7]
