Sarah Jane Johnson (married name Hindley) was born around 1855 in Sheffield, England, the daughter of Mary Ann (Morton) Johnson and George Cubitt West Johnson.^[1][2]

She married Archdeacon Hindley in 1876 in Sheffield.^[2] They migrated to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia in 1878.^[2][3] Their children were:
