We show a 3.7% dna connection here on your Moses Johnson page. My paternal grandmother was Ruby Johnson 1918-2003 of Greene Co, TN. Her family always said they were related to President Andrew Johnson. I did a Gedmatch against you with my dad’s Gedmatch kit (gj1025302) and it returned 7 segment matches across chromosomes 3, 9, 11, 12, and 20. Here they are, if the formatting works:
Chr B37 Start Pos'n B37 End Pos'n Centimorgans (cM) SNPs 3 16,676,779 21,392,307 4.9 580 Chr B37 Start Pos'n B37 End Pos'n Centimorgans (cM) SNPs 9 16,395,766 17,904,496 3 307 Chr B37 Start Pos'n B37 End Pos'n Centimorgans (cM) SNPs 11 129,606,401 130,921,263 3.7 269 Chr B37 Start Pos'n B37 End Pos'n Centimorgans (cM) SNPs 12 12,483,275 13,418,697 3.2 238 12 78,528,052 81,310,769 3.3 362 Chr B37 Start Pos'n B37 End Pos'n Centimorgans (cM) SNPs 20 7,041,513 8,450,247 3.6 254 20 56,053,585 56,941,275 3.1 276
My known Johnson line is: (my father) 02 1936-2017 Dencie Wayne Greene, TN 03 1918-2003 Ruby Lee Greene, TN 04 1875-1922 John Henry Greene, TN 05 1844-1919 Jackson W. Wilkes, NC 06 180?-1880+ Harold Duke Wikes, NC 07 1785-1878 Jehu Noel Wilkes, NC I am trying to get a Johnson cousin to do y-dna testing as well. Hope you see any clues we are kin or that helps tie to Andrew.
I would freely admit that I haven't studied the DNA side of things that much. Haven't had time to be honest. The places that you are naming would make sense to have a connection. My Dad's family lived in Hampton, Carter Co., TN - meaning the descendants of Moses Johnson. My great great grandfather Washington Abraham Johnson went to New Market, TN, left there in 1862 to go to Iowa. Their son, Ulpian Johnson went to ND and my grandfather brought his family out to Idaho in 1943...where my grandmother's family lived. However, here is the thing. My Mother's family came from Johnson Co., TN. There are several associated lines who lived in Johnson Co., TN and North Carolina. So you could be connected on several lines. If you are connected on the Johnson line...it would be from one of the brothers ie John, Jesse, Jacob (Andrew's father), Aaron and William. However, the biggest problem is that most of those Johnsons stayed in North Carolina. I will look more into your info!
Noel’s son Harold Duke (my 3G) was in 1830-1840 census in Wilkes Co, NC, but by 1850-1860 censuses in Wash Co, TN, and to Greene Co, TN by 1870-1880 census. His son Jackson (my 2G) and wife Cynthia Carver are buried at Afton, TN near Greenville.
Feel free to reply to me directly at [email address removed] It would be interesting if your information pans out. The location is very interesting as it is in Carter Co., TN. If you get your Johnson cousin to test then make sure you do a YDNA test from Family Tree DNA. I can identify several of the lines and that is really the only way that we can be sure that it is the same Johnson family. There are so many Johnson's and in fact there is another Moses Johnson in TN of similar age. Hugh B. Johnston did a great deal of research on Andrew Johnson's family and we were connected through a letter that was in Andrew Johnson's papers from Henderson William Johnson, the elder brother of my 2nd great grandfather, Washington Abraham Johnson. It took a long time before my skepticism was dismissed. There are so many who swear that they are related to Andrew Johnson because their Johnson's were from Tennessee never realizing that he in fact was born in North Carolina near Raleigh. There are still some Johnson cousins living on the land that Moses Johnson originally lived on in Carter Co., TN. My 2nd great grandfather escaped to Iowa with his family in the middle of the night as family lore tells. My great grandfather went to North Dakota likely following a railroad job with his brother. My grandfather served in CCC's in the 30's and came to Idaho with a friend and went back to North Dakota in 1939 with a new wife. My grandparents came back to Idaho in 1943 and I live with my Dad in Lewiston, ID...about 50 miles from where my grandparents first lived in Idaho. I
I am having some fun looking your line up. There are some unmistakable similarities. I have a theory why your William and Moses left NC. One of their nephews was tried and convicted of murder around the same time. I think it was one of Aaron's sons. Your William would have been the oldest son from what I can surmise. Since they were in TN...there are a lot of records or at least more than many other southern states. Were your Johnson's involved in the Civil War? Confederate or Union? How close to Greenville and the cemetery at the Andrew Johnson historical site were your Johnson's buried. Are you in TN or somewhere else?
There is an issue with https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Johnson-26973 It appears that two men with the same name have been mixed in this one profile. Would you like some help?

No, I was working on my presidential connections and could not find one for Andrew Johnson. Which is not uncommon I hear. I ran across your blog in the process and thought you gave a great explanation of Andrew Johnson's DNA. PS. My Dad and at least seven generations of his ancestors are from Greeneville, TN. You would think I could find a connection.
