Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Louvenia (Johnson) Livingston is a part of US Black heritage.

Louvenia a.k.a. "Lavina", "Viney", is listed on the 1880 South Carolina, Aiken County, Tabernacle Census as "Louvenia Johnson". Both family oral history and the 1880 Census Record reflects Louvenia as the daughter of Ann Thompson born abt. 1845 and step-daughter of Anderson Thompson born abt. 1832.

Louvenia is also shown in the same 1880 Census with her half siblings who are:

  • Hek Posey b. abt 1860
  • Amy Posey* b. abt 1863
  • Maryland Thompson b. abt 1860
  • James Thompson b. abt 1876
  • Rebecca Thompson b. abt 1878
  • Anderson Thompson Jr. b. abt 1880 ( 6 months old )

Louvenia is shown to be 7 years old on the 1880 Census with the last name of Johnson. It is assumed her biological father was a Johnson. Louvenia married Curtis Livingston (abt.1869-1916) a.k.a. Curtis Levingston.

In 1900, Levinia and Curtis Livingston were farming in Tabernacle with their two children, James L(4) and Austin (1). Also living with them was Levinia's brother James Thompson (23). The Census indicates that Levinia and Curtis had married about 1893.[1]

In 1910, Louvenia and Curtis were farming in Hopewell in Aiken County. Of the seven children born to Louvenia, four were still living: Lloyd (15), Fleming (11), Cora Belle (8) and Sarah (6).[2]

It is my personal knowledge that Louvenia's granddaughter was given the middle name of "Louvenia".
