David was born about 1824. He is the son of unknown parents. He married Mary Lovina Evans by 1849 when their eldest child was born. They have 6 children: Amanda Josephine and Rilla died young, Horace, Judson, Urbin, Lois. He enlisted in the 54th Indiana Volunteers He passed away in 1863. Burial in Vicksburg National Cemetery, Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Research Notes

Not sure if he is burried in Vicksburg or Memphis, Tennessee. His wife's obit says he was in the 54th Indiana Volunteers and died soon after the battle of Vicksburg. David H. of the 54th Indiana shows to have died on 12 Mar 1863 in Memphis. David died on 12 March 1863 in Fltg Hospital Memphis, Tennessee.^[1] I am using the Vicksburg Find A Grave because it is the only one found. There was a David N Jewett that died on 02 Jul 1863 and buried in Memphis National Cemetery but he was in the 27th Iowa Infantry and he was only 23 years old (born in 1840).^[2]
