John J. Jenkins was born on 20 Dec 1837 in West Shelby, Shelby, Orleans, New York, United States.[1]

John was a Civil War veteran. He served the Union Army as a Surgeon in the 49th New York Infantry.[2]He enlisted at 25 on 22 Aug 1862 at Washington, D.C., to serve 3 years. Mustered in as assistant surgeon on 4 Sep 1862, and as surgeon on 19 Oct, 1864. Mustered out with regiment on 27 Jun 1865 at Washington, D.C. Commissioned assistant surgeon on 3 Sep 1862, with rank from 22 Aug 1862; surgeon on 25 Oct 1864, with rank from 13 Oct 1864.[3]

John and Mandana Mahala Ryan were married on 8 Aug 1865.[1]

In 1870, 1875 and 1880 John and his family (wife Mandana alone in 1870, with first daughter Florence in 1875 and second daughter Mable in 1880) are living in Shelby, Orleans, New York, United States.[4][5][6] John is a physician.

The 1900 Census shows John as head of the household, married for 35 years but living without his wife and daughter who are living in their Pasadena, California residence.[7]

John's residence is in Buffalo, New York, United States, and he spends the winters in Pasadena, California.[8]

John's wife Mandana received his widow's pension at his death.[9]

He passed away on 6 Jan 1909 in Pasadena, California, United States[1][9][10]
