Richard C. Jebb was first educated at St. Columba's College, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland. Then he graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, United Kingdom with a Master of Arts (M.A.)
In 1863 Richard was a Fellow and Lecturer at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, and he was Professor of Greek between 1875 and 1889 at Glasgow University, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. From 1889-1905 he was Regius Professor of Greek at Glasgow University. He graduated with a Doctor of Civil Law (D.C.L.)
During those years he was a lecturer in 1892 at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A.

In 1881 his maternal grandmother, Eglantyne Mary Horsley, died, and made Richard and his brother, Rev. Heneage Horsley Jebb beneficiaries of her will. [2]
