Son of Éloi Jarry and of Françoise Chevalier and godson of Jean Neveu and Jaquine Godé, Éloi Jarry was baptized in France on 8 July 1616 in the Saint-Martin church of Igé located in the diocese of Sées in the old province of Perche.[1][2][3]
PREFEN - Baptism act |
In a contract done on 20 January 1646 in Igé before notary Jean Serand, he was hired by Nicolas Godé as a wheelwright for a period of three years in Canada at the rate of 78 livres per annum. He was hired along with André Prince (there is no trace of André Prince in the colony).[8] He is mentioned for the first time in the colony in 1646 per Fichier Origine, in 1654 per PREFEN.[1][2][5][9]
He does not appear in records of the colony before 1654, but Paul de Chomedey sieur de Maisonneuve gave 400 livres tournoi to Éloi and to Henry Perrin so they would establish themselves permanently in the colony on 7 January 1654.[8] Maisonneuve did not make such offers to newly arrived people. Éloi Jarry received a concession of 30 arpents on 17 January 1654 in the contrée St-Joseph, at the same time as Henry Perrin.[10]
Marriage
On 31 October 1654 in Montréal, a marriage contract before notary Lambert Closse was done between Éloi Jarry dit Lahaie and Jeanne Merrin, daughter of Michel Merrin and of Catherine Archanges, from the parish of Saint-Michel of Poitiers in Poitou.[1][11][12]
On 9 November 1654 in the church of Notre-Dame of Ville-Marie, Éloi Jarry, son of Éloi Jarry and of Françoise Chevalier, of the parish of St-Martin of Igé, married Jeanne Maire, daughter of Michel Maire and of Catherine Archanges, of the parish of St-Michel in Poitou, in the presence of Paul de Chomeday, Lambert Closse, and Gilbert Barbier, Claude Pijart was the priest celebrating.[13][3]
Children of the marriage[14][15]
According to Guy Perron, Éloi Jarry and Henry Perrin were associates, and Henry had made a donation of his property to Éloi in 1656. The inventory done in May 1661 by Bénigne Basset was for their business community, the goods inventoried being in the possession of Jeanne Merrin.[8]
Death
He was taken by the Iroquois around 1659 and killed.[16][1][2] Bénigne Basset did the inventory of his goods and those of Henry Perrin on 27 May 1661 by order of the governor de Maisonneuve.[12][17] The fact of his death and the cause are mentionned at the second marriage of his wife on 18 September 1661.[18]
He had 90 descendants in 1729.[19]
Tanguay gives Éloi Jarry and Jeanne an additional child, Marguerite, baptized 30 Aug 1658.[21] This is an error on his part, the girl Marguerite baptized that day was daughter of Jacques Beauvais dit St-Jeme and of Jeanne Soldet, the godfather being Éloi Jarry dit Lahaye[22]
Éloi Jarry is not included in La Grande Recrue's list of 1653 recruits compiled by Michel Langlois's research. His wife, however, is among them.[23] The reason is very simple, he arrived 7 years before the Grande Recrue.

Please understand that my earlier comments about your edits on this profile were not intended as criticism. I esteem your skill and tenacity in creating in-depth biographies, fully documented.
Just hours before you posted your message to me here, I came to the realization your methodology for utilizing census data is more utilitarian than what I had been submitting. You can view my new format for displaying the census date on the profile I created that day for Barbie Perrin ( http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Perrin-1300 ).
Thank you for your comments and links to G2G.
This other collaborator is of course me. Everybody in open privacy profiles is on the same basis in terms of editing rights: you as much as Lisa S. Tynan, Paul or anybody else in Wikitree. Check with Style Guide. If you don't agree with my re-configuration made in good faith, you need to come right out and say so. My reconfiguration is meant as an improvement, which can be changed by anyone to further improve on this. I would be pleased to go into pros and cons of your change with the re-configuration. And make further changes to suit. Cheers, Claude

What is the purpose of categories?
Rereading the bilingual work-in-progress, I've discovered the web-link to the precise page location within the census was relocated and preserved as a footnote, currently (06/08/2015) numbered 15.
15. ? B&AC-Recensement de 1666, p. 125 (Version en ligne)
On 5 July 17:55, I edited the biography for Élou Jarry, providing 1666 census date with a web-link to the precise source page within the census report. The next day another collaborator on this profile removed the web-link to the precise page within the census, apparently to Reconfigure last census change to make consistent with other 125 other Percheron pionneers' profiles in terms.
Has there been a collaborative agreement regarding the reconfiguration?
Éloi Jarry baptism record image deleted as completely different (??!!!) to both PREFEN Fiche 12914 Acte de baptême et Fichier Origine 242142 Acte de baptême, the latter two records however being evidently identical to each other.
Jan 7, 2016: See Honor Code and G2G discussions at Images and Copyright and PRDH images of family tables, should we really have them in here.
This looks very nice. I removed the 2nd footnote as you said..it was a gedcom ID tag and no use to anyone in regards to a "source" I did add the Category for the related project to both this and Jeanne's profile. Quick question for you...if you look at Jeanne's siblings, and then her parents, some were born in Canada, but both parents died in France? Just wondering?
Otherwise, very good! :) Nae
