Biography

Devereux was born in 1700 in St. Peter's Parish, New Kent County, VA, [He couldn't be the son of Robert Jarratt and Mary Ellett Canterbury because Mary Ellett was born in 1625. She was probably his grandmother instead.]

He married Elizabeth (Wingfield) Jarrett about 1723 and died about 1760, buried Putneys Mills, New Kent Co, VA

From St. Peter’s Parish Register,[1] New Kent Co, VA we learn the following:

Research Notes

NOTE: At this time March 25 was the legal beginning of the new year, which is why September means 7th month, Oct means 8, Nov means 9, Dec means 10.
In 1752 the Gregorian Calendar (more correct) replaced the Julian Calendar and the legal new year changed to January 1 (11 days were dropped, Sept 2 was followed by Sept 14.)
Many people had been using "double-dating" for years because all Europe (except for England) had been using the Gregorian Calendar since 1582. This means that dates in January, February, and most of March were designated with a / or -, such as "Jan 5, 1728-9" (old calendar-new calendar)[4]
It seems that one might just drop the old number and use the new one, such as "Jan 5, 1729", but technically you would need to drop 11 days. For instance, George Washington's original birthday was Feb 11, 1731, but after the calendar change in 1752, he changed it to Feb 22, 1732.
