Biography
Enlisted in the Union Army and became an officer in a black regiment in what was frequently termed (in sources originating in these parts)the "War of the Rebellion". He married Mary Holton (1849-1922) on 18 Nov 1872 in Milwaukee. Their first child Edward Holton James was born 18 Nov 1873; their second Mary Walsh James (who married a Vaux) was born 18 Aug 1875
