Biography

Hannah _____ (only perhaps Hannah James)[1] was born, probably England, about 1629 (assumes she was aged 21 at the date of her first marriage). She may have been from Hingham, Norfolk, England.((citation needed))

She married (1) in England, about 1650/1, John Wilson. They were the parents of at least one child - John Jr. - before emigrating to Massachusetts in 1652. Their daughter, Sarah, was born in 1653 either in Massachusetts or Connecticut but not in Woburn, Mass. (Woburn birth records show 9 sons & daughters of John Wilson born between 1658 - 1679 but no Sarah Wilson).[2]

John and Hannah were the parents of the following children:[1]

1. John, born about 1652 (calculated);
2. Sarah, born about 1653, married Samuel Snow. (see Stevens for a discussion of the possibility she is the first child);
3. Daughter born about 1655 and killed by lightening;
4. Dorcus, born 29 Jan 1657, married Aaron Cleveland;
5. Samuel, born 29 Dec 1658;
6. Francis, born about 1660;
7. James, born about 1663;
8. Abigail, born 8 Aug 1666 and married Joseph Hildreth;
9. Elizabeth, born 6 Aug 1668 and married Isaac Hildreth;
10. Benjamin, born 15 Oct 1670;
11. Hannah, born 31 May 1672, married Jonathan Peirce; and second, married James Proctor.

Hannah was married secondly to Thomas Fuller of Danvers, Massachusetts.[3][4]

Descendants of John Wilson of Woburn, MA, by Ken Stevens, 1991, agrees that her second husband was Thomas Fuller of Salem Village. After their marriage, Hannah "decided to forsake her husband, leave Salem village and return to Woburn. Under the date of 21 June 1697 the Woburn Town Records noted "Ye selectmen met and called James Proctor to account for entertaining Hannah Fuller, his mother-in-law, without leave of ye selectmen,"
Subsequently a bond for 80 pounds was given by James Wilson, Sr. of Billerica, Samuel Wilson, Aaron Cleveland and James Proctor, all of Woburn, to free the town of any charge resulting from "Hannah Fuller, ye wife of Lt. Thomas Fuller of Salem Village, who is come to this Towne of Woburn to live with her children."

Hannah's death date and place are unknown. She was still living June 21, 1697 in Woburn, Massachusetts when the town records showed that James Proctor was entertaining his mother-in-law, Hannah Fuller, without "leave of ye selectmen". She was not listed in the will of her second husband, Thomas Fuller, who died June 3, 1698.[5]

Research Notes

Disputed Parents: The PGM project is monitoring this profile because she keeps getting attached to PGM immigrant Edmund James. There is no evidence that Edmund had any children.[6]

Disputed name: No source is given, but she is sometimes seen with a middle name "Harnet."

The LNAB on this profile should be changed to Unknown, PGM removed as PM and PPP removed. PPP is already attached to the unsupported, Edmund. Thoughts?

Thank you Traci. I edited the profile narrative to pave the way for this change. Please further update if you think necessary. --Gene

I don't see how the birth date is chosen, other than agreement with the unsourced unphotographed findagrave entry. I mention this because dates outside the 2 year tolerance hinder search. As the bio says, no source is given by those who quote a later death.

The DOB is estimated, probably based on her marriage date. Assuming she was 21 when she married in 1650, she would've been born in 1629. The bio specifically says her DOD is unknown. There is documentation that she was still living June 21, 1697, so the DOD is marked as AFTER that date. Estimated dates are always better than no dates on WikiTree profiles and these have been added correctly. Of course, if anyone wants to search for a birth/death record, please do and add it to the profile.

Thank you, Tim.

I added a parententiaal comment to the statement about her birth. See what you think--Gene

Thank you for supporting WikiTree.

A child list was recently added to this profile. Albeit with less details, it does seem to correlate to the existing child list on the profile of John Wilson Sr. (abt.1629-1687). , but both lists could use a little care to better identify the sources used, add surnames and, I suggest, some consistent formatting.

Will add "needs format improvement" to this profile.--GEne

I will add more detail.

I'm puzzled that you asked for a source, when I did, indeed, include the source.

Thanks, David. It's the child list on John Wilson Sr. (abt.1629-1687) that reports no source.

Hannah's middle name "may" come from Edward James wife Reana, who is listed with the last name of Harnet in internet-based family trees. Considering Edward has been detached as a father, perhaps her middle name based on her "mother" should also be removed..?

James-7892 and James-383 appear to represent the same person because: The parental information in James-7892 could not be supported so it was removed. Please consider merge to help prune tree.
James-7892 and James-383 are not ready to be merged because: Not certain these are same folks. Says she married John Wilson in VA. Needs more work before merging

James-7892 and James-383 appear to represent the same person because: Both are alleged daughter of Edmund James and Reana

Below are verbatim excerpts from Robert Charles Anderson [Fellow of the American Society of Genealogists], The Great Migration Begins: Immigrants to New England 1620-1633 (1995), pages 1071-1072:

EDMUND JAMES ORIGIN: Unknown MARRIAGE: By unknown date Reana _____; she m. (2) contract 11 August 1640 William Andrews of Cambridge… and she married (30 Cambridge 2 May 1654 Robert Daniel… and she married (4) before 12 April 1669 Edmund Frost… There is no evidence that she [Reana] had any children by any of her husbands. CHILDREN: None recorded… There is no evidence, however, that Edmund and Reana James had any children…

Lisa, while working on the duplicates of Reana, I see that you've assigned a daughter Hannah James to her and Edmund James. Anderson, Great Migration Begins, p 1071 writes that there is no evidence that Reana had any children by any of her husbands. What's the source for Hannah's birth and parents? Thanks.

James-1966 and James-383 appear to represent the same person because: no indication of why these were put into unmerged match state, they look the same

James-1966 and James-3694 appear to represent the same person because: I think these are the same person. Hannah & John's daughter Sarah married Samuel Snow. My source is:
