Biography

Harriet was born in 1788. She passed away in 1865.

As reported in newspapers, Lt Samuel Elbert married Harriet Ann Jackson in 1808 in St Mary's Georgia.^[1]

Harriet would apply for a widow's pension after Samuel's death in 1812. ^[2]

In 1830, Harriet A Elbert is shown living alone. She held seven slaves in St Marys in Camden County.^[3]

The 1833 tax assessment shows that Mrs H A Elbert owned a house and lot in St Mary's and held twelve slaves.^[4]

In 1850 Harriet was living on her own in St Mary's. Unable to locate a slave schedule for her.^[5]

In 1860, Harriet, now 71, was living in the household of Henry and Harriet Bacon in St Mary's City. There is a note indicating R Stafford was trustee. She had a net worth of over $10,000.^[6] The 1860 slave schedule lists 29 slaves held by H A Elbert.^[7]
