Biography

William was a Friend (Quaker)
William Jackson was born about 1650 in England. He immigrated to Virginia with his wife Elizabeth and then moved on to Pasquotank Co, They were Quakers and are listed in the 1678 meeting record. He owned 116 acres at Herring Creek 1693. The children of William and Elizabeth that are mention on his will are a daughter Ruth Davis, and four sons: Zachariah, David, Daniel, and Samuel. William died in 1695 an abstract of his will below.

In 1660 the land in Pasquotank Co was purchased from the Indians. Nathaniel Batts: All land S.W. side of Pascotanck River from ye mouth to ye head of New Begin Creek.

27 September 1670 At a General Court at ye house of Samuel Davis, for ye County of Albemarle, in ye Province of Carolina.(etc) Will Jackson, petition ye Court Robert Bono, deceased, gave him all he had, and having proved by Thomas Simons, and Wm. Simons, there oath yt Wm. Jackson is ye lawful Executor, it is ordered yt said Jackson is possessed of the said Bono estate. [1]

16 Mar 1693/4 Abemarle court ss, William Jackson, planter of Pasquotank Precinct, received 234 acres for transportation of 5 persons; The persons are Wm. Jackson, Elizabeth his wife, a Negro named Nell, Robert Bonane, Isaac Skinner and the remaining 16 acres entered into the warrent. [1]

'William Jackson 16 March 1693/4 234 Acres English measure on the east side of little River in Pasquotank precinct, joing William Symson, a Swamp, and the sd. river. [2]

William Jackson, Jr 1 Jan 1694 312 acres on little River in Perquimans Precinct, joining ye Pocoson of the River and the river. [2]

William Jackson, ye Elder 17 Feb 1696, 116 acres in Pasquotank Precinct, Joining James Davis and Richard Craig.[2]

In the name of God, amen. I, William Jackson, Sen., of Pasquotank Precinct being in perfect health and memory blessed be to God for it do make the my Last Will and Testament in manner and form as followeth.

Impris, I give unto almighty God my soul who gave it me to find mercy all the present days through the merits of my saviour, Jesus Christ.

2: I commit my body to the earth to be decently buried according to the descrition of my son, Zachariah Jackson.

Item: I give and bequeath to my son, WILL Jackson, Junr., my long gun and middle sized dish and porenger and one ewe.

2: Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter, Ruth Davis, two ewes and a middle sized pewter dish and porenger.

3: I give and bequeath to my loving wife, Elizabeth, a negro woman named Jane above her thirds.

4: I give and bequeath unto Zachariah Jackson and David Jackson, my two sons, the plantation I now dwell on and all the land thereunto belonging to them and their heirs.

5: I give and bequeath to my two sons, Daniel Jackson and Samuel Jackson, a plantation situated on the easternmost branch of Herring Creek Swamp to them and their heirs forever.

6: I give and bequeath all the rest of my whole estate, real and personal, to be equally between my said four sons; Zachariah Jackson, Daniel Jackson, Samuel Jackson and David Jackson.

7: I do make and appoint Zachariah Jackson and Daniel Jacksonto be my whole and soul executors to see this my Last Will and Testament performed.

8: I do make my son, Daniel Jackson, to be an age now to perform anything relating as being my Executor for Confirmation of this my Last Will and Testament.

I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 21 February 1695/6.

N. Carolina, General Court held the third day of March, 1697. This Will proved by the oath of Mr. Hugh Campbell and Mr. Rich. Plater.
