An account of the voyages in which the ship Eclipse of Kirkwall of the burden of 74 tons has been engaged in the half year 1 July 1845-31 December 1845 and of all the persons who have belonged to the ship during that period.

Account of the voyages: Trading between Castlehill (Lyno??) and other ports on the east coast of England with paving stones and then back to Cadtlehill and Orkney with coals.

The ship's number was 6 and it was registered on 2 Jul 1839[5]

Research Note

Tyler Ross: found his will on Scotlandspeople which says that at the time of his death he left £1810, the modern equivalent of which (approx) totals some £160,000. His will is fascinating because it really gives a clear view of how they lived, among the possessions he left to his wife: a haircloth sofa and 6 hair bottomed chairs, a mahogany dining table, an eight-day clock, a meal barrel, press, dishes and bottles, boiler, pots and tongs, a meal chest, 2 gold watches (one of which was willed to Tyler's Great-Great Grandfather Samuel Ross, who brought it to Canada and willed it to his son & his Great Grandfather David Jack Ross - We don't know where it went after that) As well as 2 cows!

6 Jan 1878 Scarfskerry. David Jack age 55. retired Master Mariner. Married to Isabella Sutherland. Parents: Donald Jack, fisherman, deceased and Ann Malcolm, deceased. Cause: cancer of the stomach. Informant Samuel Ross, son-in-law. [6]
