Biography

Margaret was the daughter of John Jack and Mary Mcrobbie. She was born in Muthill, Perthshire, Scotland. The birth information can be seen below. The family lived in the village of Braco. In 1860 Margaret married Duncan Dewar. It is unclear what happened to her husband who disappears before 1870. For some reason, Familysearch refers to him as Rev. Duncan Dewar. The available censuses show Margaret alone with her children. She was a dressmaker, as were her daughters.

Margaret and Duncan had the following children:

Mary Dewar (b. 1861- till alive in 1881 - probably got married)

David Dewar (b. 1863 - died before 1871)

Katherine Dewar (1864-1920) m. William Hutton Dickie

Maggie Jack Dewar (1866-1942) m. James Edward Grant

In 1910 Margaret and her daughter Margaret Grant and her family left Glasgow and journeyed on the Pretorian to Montreal, Quebec. They landed on 7 August 1910. Strangely, Margaret's last name on the manifest was "Dickie," so someone was confused, perhaps her son-in-law. The family's destination was Calgary, Alberta.

The family settled into the neighborhood of Bridgeland-Riverside on Second Avenue, just a few doors down from the Bishop Pinkham family. This street is now called Meredith Road N.E. Her son-in-law was working as a clerk.

Margaret died in 1915 and is buried at Union Cemetery. There does not seem to be an obituary; however, in 1918 her daughter wrote the following:
