Alt spelling in some histories shown as Erwin. Joseph was the first tavern keeper at Hannastown PA ( tenant of Robert Hanna) Owned several hundred acres in what is now Mt Pleasant. Wife’s name was Elizabeth. He was a longtime friend and prob fellow settler in Cumberland PA of LTC Archibalc Lochry before moving into Western PA. Lochry married his daughter Mary Erwin, who was widowed with 2 daughters after Archibald killed in Indian raid into Ohio in 1782. A Joseph Erwin was one of Lochry’s men killed in the raid but prob would have been much younger. Connection to Capt Joseph Erwin tbd.
