Francis Jefferson Ingals was born at Surry, New Hampshire, on 26 Jul 1831, the son of Joseph Ingals and Rodentha (Ripley) Ingals.[1] In 1850, Francis J. Ingals, 19, laborer, was living at Alstead, New Hampshire, with the family of his future wife and in-laws.[2]
Marriage
Francis Jefferson Ingals married Orrilla Holbrook Slade at Alstead, New Hampshire, on 2 Jan 1855. The wedding ceremony was a joint one; Orrilla's sister Orrissa was married on the same day to Heny Bowman.[1] The 1855 Massachusetts State Census shows both couples living at Boston, Massachusetts, with Francis and Henry employed as clerks. Also living in the household was Emily E. Rust, 19, a first cousin of Orrilla and Orrissa, and Josephene E. Bowman, 12.[3] By 1860, Francis and Orrilla Ingals were back in Alstead, living and farming there with Orrilla's mother, Eunice Slade, 60, and two daughters, Addella E. Ingals, 4, born in Massachusetts, and Julia M. Ingals, 2, born in New Hampshire.[4] In 1870, Francis J Ingalls (sic), teamster, 39, was living at Claremont, New Hampshire, with Orrilla Ingalls, 40, Adella E. Ingalls, 14, Julia Ingalls, 12, Herman F,. Ingalls, 2, and a boarder.[5] In 1888, the family at Claremont included Francis J. Ingals, J. Ingals, 49, a teamster; Aurelia (sic) Ingals, 50, his wife; Julia M. Ingals, 22, his daughter; Mary J. Webster, divorced, 48, a cousin; and Carrie L. Bowman, 16, a niece.[6] Orrilla H. (Slade) Ingals died from meningitis at Claremont, New Hampshire, on 1 May 1888, the day after her 58th birthday,[7]

Francis and Orrilla (Slade) Ingals were the parents of three children:[1]

Death
Francis J. Ingals, teamster, died following a two-year-long case of apoplexy hemiplegia at Claremont, New Hampshire, on 15 May 1894, with his age at his death recorded as 62 years, 9 months, 19 days.[8] His gravestone at the Pleasant Street Cemetery in Claremont says that he died on 15 May 1864 at the age of 62 years, 10 months.[9]
