Family records and the 1901 Canada census[8] and other records indicate that William Rodger Huscroft was born on September 8, 1830 in Kirk Smeaton, Yorkshire, England. He was baptized on October 10, 1830 in Kirk Smeaton, Yorkshire.[1]
On June 1, 1841, at the time of the 1841 England census, William Huscroft was living in Burgh Wallis, Yorkshire, with the family of a Richard Crawcroft.[2] It is known that William's mother and older sister died in 1833 and it is thought that William's father died in 1839, thus leaving him an orphan to live with friends or relatives.
William Huscroft arrived in America at New Orleans, Louisiana on March 15, 1851 on the ship Ellen which sailed from Liverpool, England. He was listed as a 20 year old mechanic.[3]
In 1856, William Huscroft was living in Provo, Utah at the time of the statehood census of Utah.[4]
On June 1, 1860, at the time of the 1860 US census, William Huscroft and his family were living in Pondtown, Utah (which is now known as Salem, Utah).[5]
On June 8, 1870, at the time of the 1870 US census, William Huscroft and his family were living in Washington, DeKalb, Missouri.[6]
At the time of the 1880 federal census, it is believed that William Huscroft and his family were living in northeastern Utah based on family records. While entries for William Huscroft have not been found in the 1880 federal census, his daughter Ann Huscroft is shown staying with her grandparents, James and Emma Fisher, in Provo, Utah.[7]
On March 31, 1901, at the time of the 1901 Canada census, William Huscroft and his family were living Nelson Riding of British Columbia (at a location which is now known as Huscroft, British Columbia).[8] On June 1, 1911, at the time of the 1911 Canada census, William Huscroft and his family were still living in the same location,[9] where he continued to live until his death. He died on December 17, 1922 at Camp Lister, British Columbia (at a location which is now known as Huscroft, British Columbia).[10] He was buried in the Pioneer Cemetery in Creston, British Columbia.[11]

It is not clear whether his second name was Roger or Rodger. More records indicate Roger than Rodger, however, the family history book has his name as Rodger. On his baptism record, it almost appears as if it were the name Rodger overwritten with a larger "g" so as to cover the "d" and make it then appear as Roger!
