1877 Minnie Hurwirtz was born about 1877 in Lithuania, perhaps in Kavanna or in alternate names: Pikeliai [Lith], Pikeln [Yid], Pikeli [Rus], Pikiele [Pol], Pikelyay, Pikelių, Pikelē.[1] She was the daughter of Jacob Hurwitz and Ida Pearl Nieman.[2]
1893 Minnie immigrated to the USA about this time.[1]
1898 About this time Minnie married Samuel Schwartz from Kiev, Russia.[3]
1900 Minnie and Sam lived in Precinct 7 West Town Chicago city Ward 7, Cook, Illinois, USA in 1900 with their daughter and Minnie's father and brothers. Sam worked as a fruit dealer while Minnie's father was a dry goods peddler. Brother Abe was a cigarmaker. The household comprised:
1920 Sam was still in the wholesale fruit business in Chicago, Illinois in 1920. The family lived on Winchester Avenue, in the 2nd precinct of Chicago. Son Manny helped sell fruit.
1940 Minnie's daughter Ida had married and was widowed with two children. They now lived with Minnie and Sam in a rented home on North Pine Grove Avenue, Chicago, Illinois. Sam was now the proprietor of a retail sports attire store. Daughter Ida worked as a housekeeper.
1949 About this time Minnie and Sam celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a grand party and cake. See photo.
1956 Minnie Hurwitz Schwartz died 11 Feb 1956 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA. She was 79 years old, widowed, and had been living at 3800 Lake Shore Drive in Chicago, Illinois. She was buried on 13 Feb 1956 at Oak Woods Cemetery in Chicago.[2]
