Isabell Hunter was born on 19th January 1784 and Baptized on 21st January 1784 in Kirkmichael, Ayrshire, Scotland. She is the daughter of David Hunter and Isabell Anderson.
[1][2][3]
On 14th June 1805 Isabel married her cousin Andrew Hunter in Kirkmichael, Ayrshire. [4][5]
In June 1841 Isabel was living in Kirkmichael with her husband Andrew and children, David, Joseph, Mary, john and Agnes. Andrew and the three sons were Employed as Cotton Hand Loom Weavers. [6][7]
The manufacture of Cotton fabrics was a staple trade in Kirkmichael in the 1840s. Large cotton warehouses in Glasgow would distribute the cotton to the hand loom weavers who in turn were responsible for turning the cotton into the required fabrics.[8]
10 years later in 1851 Isabella, her husband Andrew and children Isabella (32) and John (30) were living in Kirkmichael Village where Andrew was a Farmer of 12 Acres and also a Grocer. Isabella, as a Grocers wife most likely assisted in the shop, while daughter Isabella carried out the household duties. John was a Cotton Weaver. [9][10]
Isabell's Husband Andrew died in 1860 [11] and the following year Isabella was living alone as a Grocer, still in the village of Kirkmichael. [12]
In 1871 Isabella was living with her daughter Isabella in New Bridge Street, Kirkmichael. She was still a Grocer. [13]
During 1876, Isabell reached the age of 93, when she died in Kirkmichael. [14]
