Bio notes: John Howard Hunter: Funeral services for John Howard Hunter, 78, Winthrop, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 18, at the funeral home in Winthrop with Rev. A. F. Schneck officiating.

Burial was in the Wilson cemetery.

Mr. Hunter died Tuesday, January 15, at People's Memorial hospital in Independence. He was born November 20, 1894 at Ramsey, Illinois the son of Josephe and Sarah Denina Leigh Hunter. He grew up and lived in the Ramsey area until 1918 when he enlisted in the U. S. Army. Soon after he was discharged he was married to Bertha Bell VanLaningham Cunningham on June 19, 1920 at Independence.

Mr. Hunter farmed for a short time before he went to work for the Illinois Central railroad. After over 40 years with the railroad he retired. He was a veteran of WWI, a member of the American Legion Post 560 of Winthrop and was a former member of the Winthrop city council.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Leonard, Independence; two daughters, Mrs. Maurice (Leota) Reed, Winthrop; Mrs. Virgil (Winifred) Bateman, Winthrop; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Lucille McConnell, Dysart; one stepson, Alfred Cunningham, Lakeland, Florida; 25 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph Huntrer, Decatur, Illinois, Lawrence Hunter, Plano, Illinois; six sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Rose) Muck, Decatur, Illinois, Bess Daniels, Ramsey, Illinois, Mrs. John (Juanita) Frailey, Herrick, Illinois, Mrs. Cliff (Pauline) Wehrle, Ponca City, Oklahoma; Mrs. Harlan (Loretta) Walton, Troy Mills and Mrs. Donald (Gertrude) Leatherman, Winthrop.
