Thomas Franklin Hughes II was born on August 6, 1907, in Emmet, Nevada County, Arkansas, to Thomas Franklin Hughes Jr. and Mary Drucilla (Marshall) Hughes.[2] His early years saw him residing in Jefferson Township, Little River County, Arkansas, around 1910[3], and later back in Emmet, Nevada County, Arkansas, by 1920.[4]

Having a thirst for knowledge, Hughes pursued higher education at the University of Texas.[5]

By 1930, he had settled in Texarkana, Bowie County, Texas[6], where he found his passion for professional baseball, but also made a mark as a reserve outfielder for the Detroit Tigers, primarily occupying center field.[5][7]

On December 22, 1934, Hughes tied the knot with Helen Elizabeth Milam in Orange County, Texas.[8] The couple embarked on their journey together, setting up home in Orange, Orange County, Texas, by 1940, where Hughes found employment with Sabine Supply Company.[9][10]

As the years passed, Hughes's endeavors took him to Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas, by 1950. Here, he transitioned into entrepreneurship, owning and operating an Oil Fieldry Company, marking his name in the local business landscape.[11]

Thomas Franklin Hughes II's journey came to a close on August 10, 1989, in Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas.[12] He was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home in the same city, leaving behind a legacy marked by his dedication to sport, business, and family.[13]
