Bela Victor Hughes was born on 27 Jan 1879;[1] he was the son of William Hughes and Sarah Pool.[2][3]

Hughes (age 65, born Aug 1834 in Alabama), with his mother, Sarah U. Hughes (age 62, born Feb 1838 in Alabama), and a brother: Harvey R. Hughes (age 26, born Sep 1873 in Alabama).
On 23 Nov 1904 in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama,[5] [6] Bela Victor Hughes married Maud Barringer.
In 1910,[6] Bela V. Hughes (age 31, born Alabama) was living in Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama as head of household with his wife of 5 years, Maude Hughes (27, born Alabama), and his Hughes children, all born in Alabama (age, sex): i) Grady (4, M), ii) Horace (1, M). On 12 Sep 1918,[1] Bela Victor Hughes (age 39, born 27 Jan 1879) registered in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama for the World War I draft. At that time, he was living at 1214 13th Street, Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. He was employed as a barber in Tuscaloosa. He was married to Mrs. Maude Hughes, who lived at the same address.
In 1920,[7] Bela V. Hughes (age 40, born Alabama) was living in Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama as head of household with his wife, Maude M. Hughes (age 37, born Alabama), and their Hughes children, all born in Alabama (age, sex): i) Grady H. (13, M), ii) Horace D. (11, M), iii) Mary R. (9, F), iv) George R. (6, M). Bela's occupation was a Deputy with County Sheriff's office.
In 1930,[8] Bela V. Hughes (age 51, born Alabama) was living in Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama as head of household with his wife, Maud Hughes (47, born Alabama), and their Hughes children, all born in Alabama (age, sex): i) Horace (21, M), ii) Ruth (19, F), iii) George (17, M). Bela's occupation was a Sheriff for the Court Bailiff.
On 21 Aug 1937,[9] Bela and Maud's son, George Riley Hughes married Mildred Ethelyn Rushing. This record states that Maud's maiden surname was Barringer.
In 1940,[10] Bela V. Hughes (age 61, born Alabama) was living in Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa county, Alabama as head of household with his wife, Maud Hughes (57, born Alabama), and their son, George R. Hughes (27, born Alabama), and their daughter-in-law, Mildred Hughes (23, born Alabama), and their grandaughter, Patricia Ann Hughes (age 1, born Alabama). In 1935,[10] they lived at the same place. Bela's occupation was a Bailiff for the Court.
Bela Victor Hughes died at age 62 on 10 Jan 1941, [3] and he was buried in the Evergreen Cemetery, Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama.[11] The death record lists his parents as W. R. Hughes and Sarah Poole; his wife was Maude B. Hughes.
