Hi I recently did my autosomnal DNA test with Ancestry.com. Mainly because I had hit some brick walls with my trees. Especially on my maternal side.
To my surprise when I got my results, I had no British ethnicity and I had lived in England since I was 9 months old having been born in Italy to my Italian mother and her British soldier boyfriend. She was 16 and he was 24 they did get married and I came to England with my mother in early 1947.
As a consequence I have to assume my father was not my biological father. So all the paternal side of my tree became meaningless overnight.
Within my DNA matches I did have a first cousin in Pennsylvania USA. Some weeks later I got a 3rd cousin match. I have been able to see that they are connected to two great aunts who are sisters. My assumption is therefore that these two aunts are related to me. Their maiden names are Silnik of east European extraction which ties in nicely to my DNA ethnicity that is 48% east European, 41% Italian and 11% other. So let the searching commence.
