There are sources that show that Charles was born in Virginia, rather than North Carolina.
Chas, son of Thomas H. Hugins and Catharine T. Hugins, was born in December 1857 in Halifax, Virginia, United States.[1]
In the 1860 census Charles (age 3) was in Southern District, Halifax, Virginia, United States.[2]
His family moved from Virginia to North Carolina between 1860 and 1870.
In the 1870 census Charles (age 12) was in Cunningham, Person, North Carolina, United States.[3]
