Biography

Stanley James Hucker was born in Willaura on 8th December 1921, the son of George Hucker and Margaret Long Moore.[1]

On 30th January 1942, he enlisted in the Australian Army.[2] He was awarded a Military Medal for gallant and distinguished service in New Guinea in 1943.[3][4]

In 1946, he married Phyllis Dohle.[5]

He passed away on 6th February 2007, aged 85, and is buried in the Lake Bolac Cemetery.[6]

When his platoon was pinned down by heavy machine-gun fire in action at Edwards' Plantation, Corporal Hucker moved forward under intense enemy fire with a Bren gun and engaged the enemy single-handed. This enabled the platoon to move to a more favorable position, from which it launched a further successful attack.
