Biography

Robley, son of Christian Howell and Dove Adeline Reynolds,^[1] was born 10 May 1908 in Stockton, San Joaquin County, California.^[1][2] In 1910 his family lived in Castoria Township, San Joaquin County, where his father cultivated his own land.^[3] The household was composed of his parents Christian (age 36) and Dovie (38), Robly A. (2), his maternal grandmother Kezia Reynolds (75) and a farmhand Frederick Farnham (60).^[3]

After his father committed suicide by gun in 1915,^[4] Robley and his mother went to live with her brother.^[5] In 1920 the blended family resided in Lafayette, Contra Costa County, California.^[5] The household was headed by Dove's brother Charles E. Reynolds (age 57, farmer) and his wife Clara D. (56), his mother Dove R. Howell (49) and Robley A. (11).^[5]

On 17 May 1931 at the First Christian Church in Stockton, San Joaquin County, California, he married Mabel Alberta Abt,^[6] daughter of John Abt and Pearl Lawrence.^[6] At the time he was a salesman and she a student.^[6] They divorced without having any children.

Robley died 25 December 1979 in Napa County, California.^[2][7]
