Biography

Charles Howard was born c.1798 in Maryland; I am unsure when he left home (likely military related, unconfirmed) but he married Jane Hamel (1810-bef.1870) on July 11, 1825, in Upson County, Georgia.[1] He entered his name into the 1832 Georgia Cherokee Land Lottery and was awarded 160 acres.[2] Charles and Jane made their home in Talbot County, Georgia where they were last enumerated on July 20, 1860 (see below); he was absent on the 1870 census, enumerated July 29.[3]
