Biography

Ralph Howard was a member of the aristocracy in British Isles.

Ralph Howard was born at Shelton Abbey, County Wicklow, the eldest son of the Rt. Rev. Robert Howard (1670–1740), Bishop of Elphin, and Patience Boleyn. ^[1]

He married Alice Forward, daughter of William Forward, on 11 August 1755.

He was created 1st Baron Clonmore, of Clonmore Castle, co. Carlow [Ireland] on 21 July 1776. He was created 1st Viscount Wicklow, of co. Wicklow, Ireland on 21 June 1785.

1. Robert Howard born about 1757 d 23 Oct 1815
2. William Howard born about 1758 d 27 Sept 1818
3. Hugh Howard born 1761 died 3 Nov 1840

Ralph Howard died on 26 June 1789. He left four sons and several daughters including Robert (2nd Earl of Wicklow), William (3rd Earl) and Hugh, MP for St. Johnstown, Co. Longford. His widow, a formidable lady by all accounts, was created Countess of Wicklow in her own right on 5th December 1793. ^[2]
