Biography

George W. Hoover was born June 3, 1848. [1] He was the son of John and Clarinda Hoover. His father was a Civil War veteran.

In 1860, his family was in Danby, Tompkins County, New York. Their neighbors were Joseph and Maria Whitely who had a daughter Pluma. [2]

He married Pluma A. Whitely on November 6, 1864.

Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Hoover celebrated their fiftieth anniversary last evening at the residence of their daughter, Mrs. Emma Poole, of 109 Auburn Street. An enjoyable evening was spent and the couple received many beautiful presents. – The Ithaca Journal, Saturday, November 7, 1914, Page 3.

In 1865, they were in Caroline, Tompkins County, New York. [3] In 1870, they were Danby, New York, and in 1880 were in Vestal, where George was a farm laborer. [4] [5]

In 1900, George and Pluma were in Elmira, Chemung County, New York. [6]

His wife died in 1918. In 1920, George was in Caroline, New York, with daughter Emma Poole. [7]

George Hoover died October 1, 1935 in the Town of Candor, Tioga County, New York. He is buried in Garrett Mandeville Cemetery, Caroline, Tompkins County, New York. [8]

Willseyville – George Hoover, 87, died Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Mary Hallett. Funeral services were held Thursday, with burial at Slaterville. – The Ithaca Journal, Ithaca, New York, Monday, October 7, 1935, page 11.
