Arthur was born in 1877. He was the son of William Hover and Julia Silvernail. He passed away in 1898.
Killed by the Cars.
Arthur Hover, a young man about 21 years old, whose father lives at Weitonville, came to board at R. H. Robertson's hotel on South Depot street last Wednesday while he was at work on the dam.
Yesterday he and a fellow workman named Charles Travis went to Apalachin and then, after their return to Owego, they went down to the dam to see if the water would allow their working again today. The last time he was seen alive was about 5 or little later that afternoon but his body was found lying outside the east bound track, about 100 feet east of the water tank east of the station. His head was badly crushed and it was seen that he could not live. His death soon followed his discovery, which was made a little before 8 o'clock. Dr.S. W. Thompson, county physician, had been called but saw that nothing could be done for him.
It is thought that he may have endeavored to board Erie freight train No. 90, just ahead of passenger train 21 at 7:33 p. m. He was not a drinking man and the actual facts of his death may never be known.
Coroner Beck began an inquest into the death this morning at McDonald's undertaking rooms, which he adjourned to the courthouse at 10:20 a. m. tomorrow. The funeral will be held at the home of his father, William P. Hover, two miles above Weltonville, at 1 p. m Wednesday and at the Baptist church near there one hour later.[1]
