Biography

Maud (Hotchkiss) Shows was born in Texas.

Maud Hotchkiss was born on July 28, 1886 in Texas. Her father was Joseph Pannell Hotchkiss and her mother Elizabeth Burlingame.[1]

Maud Hotchkiss parents had both died, and she lived with the Dickerson family. She was only thirteen years old, but she worked as a farm laborer.[2]

Maud married Benjamin Hezekiah Bulman on July 29, 1900 in Hamilton County.[3]

Their first child apparently died at birth in 1902, as it is listed as "Baby" on the tombstone.[4]. The next son, William Joseph, is born in 1904,[5] Edward in 1906 and died that same year,[4] Lois Eliza in 1908,[6]

In 1910, she lived in Bosque County, Texas.[7]

Her son Herman Hill was born in 1911[8], and she had another daughter, Marja, born in 1914, but she died a year later.[4]

In 1915, her husband died, leaving her a widower to raise the children on her own.[9]

Maud married her second husband, widower John Bradford Shows, on August 31, 1916 in Bosque County, Texas.[10] In 1917, her son Roy Willard was born and Eva in 1919.[11]

In 1922, Iva Inez was born, Lawrence Irvin in 1924, and James Wilton Shows in 1929. She lived on Gatesville Road in Bosque County, Texas.[12]

In 1935, she lived in Coryell County Texas, and in 1940 lived in Bosque County, Texas.[13]

Maud died myocardial failure (dysfunction of the myocardium, leading to defective cardiac emptying (contraction) or filling (relaxation) caused by arteriosclerotic heart disease or thickening of the arteries. She passed away on January 15, 1962 in Mexia, Limestone County, Texas, where she had been a patient of Christofer-Edgar Hospital for 6 months.[1] She was buried at Wortham Bend Cemetery in China Spring, McLennan County, Texas.[14]
