Biography
Ellen was born in 1846. No official record of a birth or baptism appears to exist, and in her marriage record her parents' names do not figure.
Nevertheless, in her many Census appearances down the years, she gives her place of birth as "Winterbourne, Gloucestershire". She married Robert Champion, a rising young businessman in the confectionery sector, and while he prospered, she bore him seven children. Sadly, he left her a widow after only twenty-seven years, of marriage, and she lived in that state for a further thirty. The last view of her is at age 75, living quietly in Woodstock Road, Bristol, with a companion and one servant. She passed away in 1926 at the same address.
