Biography

Private Jimmie Horsley served in the Kentucky Militia in the War of 1812
Service started: AUG 31, 1813
Unit(s): Colonel Poage's 3rd Regiment Kentucky Mounted Volunteers
Service ended: DEC 15, 1813

James was born about 1794 probably in what is now Greenup Co. KY. He was the son of James Horsley. He passed away in 1874.

His application for pension contains the following... On the Twelfth (12) day of May, AD one thousand eight hundred and seventy one, personally appeared before me, George A. Corum Clerk of the Greenup County Court, a Court of Record within and for the county and State aforesaid James Horsley, aged 77 years, a resident of Three Prong, County of Greenup State of Kentucky, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is married; that his wife’s name was Elizabeth madden, to whom he was married at the home of Nathen Madden, on the twenty eight day of May AD, 1815; that he served the full period of sixty days in the military service of the United States in the war of 1812; that he is the identical James Horsley, who enlisted in Captain Frances H. Gaines company, at Andrew Mefford’s, Tygretts Creek, on the (blank0 day of June 1813, and was honorably discharged at cross roads Greenup County Ky, on the (blank) day of December, 1813; that he enlisted under Thomas T. G. Waring, who became the first Lieut. of said company, Frances H. Gaines, was our Captain, Col. John Poage was our Col., our Regiment went to New Port and joined Genl. Shelby and from there we went to Fort Senica (Seneca) on the Sandusky river and there we joined General Wm. H. Harrison and sent in boats to Put-in-Bay and we fought the Indians most of the time and at The Battle of the Thames. He received a discharge which was destroyed by the rebels in late war. He hereby constitutes and appoints, with full power of substitution and revocation, Jeremiah Davidson of Greenup C. H. Ky. his true and lawful attorney to prosecute his claim and obtain the pension certificate that may be issued; that his post office is at Greenup C. H. County of Greenup State of Kentucky that his domicile or place of abode is on Three Prong Greenup County Kentucky.

According to Greenup Co. KY marriage records, he married Elizabeth Madden in 1815.
