Joel Horne was born 14 Oct 1751, the son of Henry Horn and Ann Purcell. His birth is recorded in the Rich Square Quaker Meeting MInutes, Northampton, North Carolina. Northampton records are also labeled Edgecombe.[1][2]Please note that some records indicate a in the year 1751. This represents the Quaker date of the 8th month, 14th day, (October) of 1851.[3] He is named as a son in his father's 1797 Wayne, North Carolina will.[4]
He married (1) Anne Harris before 1780 in North Carolina. She was the daughter of Sherwood Harris and Jane Hudspath. She is named as one of the youngest three children in her father's 1763 Granville, North Carolina will

Following Joel Horn's death, she moved to Tennessee and remarried David Hunter. The following information was published 6 Sep 1855 in her death notice:
SARAH HUNTER born N.C., Feb. 8, 1758; md Joel Horn, had 3 children, Etheldred P., Matthew, Charlotte L.; moved to Tenn. in spring of 1795 with her brother, Benjamin Phillips and settled near Nashville, a widow; she remarried to David Hunter, March 3, 1803; she died August 3, 1855.[6]
Joel Horn died before Nov 1793 when his will was proved in Nash County, North Carolina. His will was written 16 Sep 1793. It lists his wife Sarah and his children: Etheldred, Matthew, Harris, Howell, Hardy, Milbrie and Rebecca HORN. [9][10]
