Lebbeus Hordern was born in 1891 at or about Woollahra in the Colony of New South Wales in what was soon to become Australia. He was the son of Samuel Hordern and Jane Booth.
Lebbeus Hordern was twice married; firstly on 20 October 1912 to Olga Claire Monie at St Mary's Catholic Cathedral in Sydney, New South Wales. Then, on 6 February 1926 in Adelaide, he married Francis May Barry at the Flinder's Street Registry Office. This was only two weeks after his Divorce Decree from Olga had been made absolute.
Could his second wife be Mollie Barry who was a bridesmaid at his first wedding?
Lebbeus Hordern served in the English army in World War I as part of the Royal Field Artillery; and was unfortunately gassed in France and repatriated home to Australia in about 1917. From the Robertson Advocate newspaper of Tuesday 13 June 1916 we see mention of a war wound:
From the Melbourne based Punch newspaper of Thursday 15 June 1916, we see more about this injury below:
He passed away in September 1928 at his home in Darling Point, New South Wales and was buried in the South Head Cemetery in Vaucluse, New South Wales, Australia. It is worth noting that a Peter G. Hordern the son of LEBBANE & FRANCES M Hordern passed away in WOOLLAHRA Sydney in 1927, this is believed to have been his son.
He left an estate value at 298,252 pounds. In 1930 there was a court case between his frist wife and the Executors of his estate.
