Comfort Poland aged about 75yrs. a resident of said county of Hampshire & State of Virginia who ..... duly sworn according to law declare that she is the widow of Amos Poland who was a private in the company commanded by Capt John Dean in the second regiment of Virginia Militia commissioned by ..... in the war with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of June AD 1812; that her husband was drafted in said County of Hampshire the winter of 1814-15 for the term of 6 months; that he ..... at Moorefield in the Co. of Hardy where he remained till news of peace of ..... been made ..... the troops were disbanded in Feb. 1815 & came time afterward that see his discharge & that since discharge has been destroyed. She further states that she was married to the said Amos Poland in Romney, Hampshire Co., Va on the 3rd June about the year 1804 by one John Lyle a Presbyterian Minister and of this marriage there remains ..... public on private record and she has been told that the said John Lyle died in KY and that her maiden name was Comfort Hopkins, that her husband died near the said town of Romney on the 23rd day of Jan. AD 1839 and that she is ..... a widow. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which she may be entitled under the act passed Sept. 28, 1850.[2]
