Biography

Walter Maurice Hooper was born at 5 Florence Terrace, Ramsgate, Kent, England. !0th November 1895^[1] to Frank Hooper and his wife Eleanor Brooker .

In 1901 ^[2]he was living with his parents, Frank and Elea, and 5 siblings, he was age 5 a scholer born in Ramsgate.

The 1911 census ^[3] shows him living at Bloomsbury road in Ramsgate, Kent, still living with his parents and 5 siblings. Walter is stated as 15 and an Errand Boy for Liptons Grocers, born in Ramsgate.

On 9th December 1915^[4] Walter joined the Royal Army Medical Corps, Where he saw action in the trenches in France, then went on to the Middle East. The photo used was taken when he was stationed in India. After falling ill due to Turburculosis he was returned to England and discharged from the army on 15th August 1917.

In 1921 he married his sweetheart, Dorothy King. on 16th July 1921 at St Lawrence Church, Ramsgate, Kent^[5].Walter Maurice Hooper 25 bachelor a Grocer of 3 Bloomsbury Road, Ramsgate, father Frank James Hooper Deceased a Dockyard Worker and Dorothy Harriett King 21 spinster of same address, father Arthur George King, deceased a Sailor.Witnessed by Ernest Grahame Hooper and T. Murray. One of the witness was Ernest Graham Hooper, Walter`s brother. Walter was still ill with Turburculosis He and Dorothy went on to have two children, my father Walter Athur James and a daughter Eillen.

Eileen was born in 1923 by which time Walter was seriously ill, Dorothy was living in Rye, while Walter was living with his mother in Bloomsbury road. I have several letters written between Dorothy and Walter, which are very sad, It would appear from the tone of the letter that Walter was aware he was dying, Sadly he passed away on 15th April 1924, in Bloomsbury road, Ramsgate^[6]of Pulmonary Turburculosis and Cardac Failure. W.A.S Foat, Brother-in-Law present at Death. aged just 28.

Walter was buried at Ramsgate Cemetary, When Dorothy died in 1976, In her will she said her wish was to be laid alongside her first husband, so they could be together again.
